Byeong-sul: The Sun Setting on the Hills

The evening sun sinking behind autumn hills. Warm, generous, nostalgic, and a little stubborn about doing things its own way.

  • Yang Fire stem
  • Dog branch · Earth
  • Pillar 23 of 60
  • Spouse palace: Eating God 식신

Byeong-sul places the Sun on 戌, the Dog, dry autumn earth that also stores Fire. The Dog is the "tomb" or storage branch of Fire, the place where the day's heat is tucked away for the night. So this is the sun at 6 p.m. in October, low and golden over the hills, the light everyone stops to photograph.

You are warm in a slow, deep way rather than a flashy one. You are generous, a natural host and a keeper of traditions, playlists and inside jokes. Earth is your output element, the Eating God (식신) here, so you express love through doing: cooking, making, sharing what you have. The 戌 branch also hides 辛 Metal, which combines with Byeong (丙辛合), giving you a soft magnetism. Your shadow is stubbornness and a habit of nostalgia. Evening light makes the past look prettier than it was, and you can get stuck there.

BomYou make people feel like they belong somewhere. That warmth is the reason so many friendships in your life have lasted years.

Byeong-sul in love

Eating God in the spouse palace usually means you are affectionate, nurturing and easy to be around. You like a partner you can feed, spoil and laugh with on the couch. Romance for you is food, comfort and long conversations that drift into midnight.

You may also mother your partner a little, or expect the relationship to stay cozy even when something needs a hard conversation. Comfort is not the same as closeness. Bring up issues while they are small. A partner with Water energy brings depth and helps keep your earth from drying out into stubbornness.

As a friend

You are the friend whose house everyone ends up at. You remember traditions, keep group photos and plan the annual trip. You are protective and loyal, like the Dog branch itself. You can be set in your ways, and you may sulk when friends grow in directions you did not expect. Grow with them.

Red flags

  • You romanticize the past and measure the present against it.
  • You smother with care instead of asking what someone needs.
  • You dig in on 'how we always do it'.
  • You avoid hard conversations by making another snack.

YeonNot every new thing is a threat to the old thing. Let people change. Let yourself change. The hills will still be there.

At work

Byeong-sul does well in warm, practical, creative work: food and beverage, hospitality, teaching, crafts, community roles, family businesses. You make workplaces feel human. You can resist change, so make a habit of trying one new method a quarter. Your instincts are good; your comfort zone is just very comfortable.

Byeong-sul vs the other Byeong Fire pillars

Byeong-sul is the most nurturing and nostalgic Byeong pillar. Byeong-jin (丙辰) shares the Eating God spouse palace, but 辰 is wet spring earth, so Byeong-jin is lighter and more forward-looking while you are autumnal and rooted in tradition. Byeong-o (丙午) and Byeong-in (丙寅) are brighter and more outgoing; they want an audience, you want a table full of people. Byeong-ja (丙子) is disciplined and formal, Byeong-sin (丙申) is commercial and quick. Your love language is food and memory, and none of your siblings does that quite as well.

Chart notes

Chart notes for Byeong-sul: the 戌 Dog branch is Earth and hides 辛 (Direct Wealth), 丁 (Rob Wealth), 戊 (Eating God), read from a Byeong Fire point of view. Its main qi, 戊, puts Eating God (식신 食神) in the Byeong-sul spouse palace. In branch relations, 戌 clashes with 辰 (Dragon) and forms a six-harmony pair (육합) with 卯 (Rabbit), so a partner with a Dragon or Rabbit day branch will feel noticeably different to a Byeong-sul person. 丙戌 is pillar 23 of the sixty in the 육십갑자 cycle.

FAQ

Why is Byeong-sul linked to sunset imagery?

The 戌 branch is where Fire energy is stored at the end of its cycle, and it belongs to late autumn. A sun stem on that branch suggests the warm, low, evening sun.

Is Byeong-sul a homebody?

Often, in the best sense. Many Byeong-sul people love hosting, cooking and keeping traditions. That does not mean they do not travel; they just like coming home to something familiar.

What should Byeong-sul watch out for in relationships?

Using comfort to avoid conflict. Your care is real, but issues still need to be named. A short, honest conversation now prevents a long cold silence later.
