Fire and Wood: compatibility from the Fire side

Now flip the story. If you are a Fire Day Master, Byeong (丙, the sun) or Jeong (丁, the candle), a Wood Day Master is your fuel. Wood feeds Fire, so for you Wood is Resource: the element that supports, protects and keeps you burning. You may notice you feel steadier, more confident and less frantic around Gap and Eul people. They give your brightness something to hold onto.

Wood feeds Fire in the generating cycle, so Wood is Fire's Resource.

BomThey believe in you on your dimmer days, and you light up their whole life in return. That is a lovely deal.

Chemistry

In Ten God terms, Wood is your Indirect Resource (편인) if you share polarity and Direct Resource (정인) if you do not. That means mentors, teachers and people who believe in you. Wood partners are steady and principled, and they think long term, which balances your speed and spontaneity. The classic image is Jeong with Gap: a candle that never gutters because there is a whole log beside it. Byeong with Eul is sunlight on a garden, both of you looking better for it. Classical texts say Jeong Fire in particular needs Gap Wood to burn for long.

Friction

You can take Wood for granted. Their steady support becomes background, and you forget to say thank you. You may also burn through their energy with your moods, plans and big feelings. Wood people need direction and consistency; your spontaneity can feel exhausting if it never lands anywhere. And they may feel you only notice them when you need fuel.

In love

In love you light each other up. You make them feel warm and visible; they make you feel safe enough to shine. Keep the flame healthy by giving back, with attention, consistency, help with their goals. A fire that only takes eventually burns out its own forest.

As friends

As friends, Wood is the reliable one you call for advice; you are the one who makes their birthday unforgettable.

YeonYour fuel is a person, not a renewable resource. Ask how they are doing before you ask for more kindling.

How to make it work

Let Earth in. Fire feeds Earth, so shared projects, cooking, building routines together turn your heat into something both of you can stand on. And say thank you, specifically and often.

The Day Master pairs

Read from the Fire side, the four Day Master pairings here are Byeong with Gap (Indirect Resource), Byeong with Eul (Direct Resource), Jeong with Gap (Direct Resource), and Jeong with Eul (Indirect Resource), and each of those pairings links to its own compatibility page.

Is Wood good for Fire in saju?

Yes. Wood feeds Fire, so Wood is a Fire Day Master's Resource, a supportive and steadying element.

Why do classical texts pair Jeong Fire with Gap Wood?

The Qiong Tong Bao Jian repeatedly says yin Fire, the candle, needs yang Wood as fuel to keep burning. It is one of the best-known pairings in classical saju.
