Fire melts Metal. If you are a Metal Day Master, Gyeong or Sin, a Fire Day Master, Byeong (丙, the sun) or Jeong (丁, the candle), is your Officer, the element that controls and refines you. That can feel like heat on your neck. It can also be what turns raw steel into a sword and a rough stone into a jewel that catches the light. The classics are clear that Metal without Fire stays crude.
Fire controls Metal in the controlling cycle, so Fire is Metal's Officer.
BomThey bring out your shine, and you give their fire something worth shaping. Together you make each other better.
Chemistry
From your side, Fire is Seven Killings (편관) if you share polarity and Direct Officer (정관) if you do not. Officer energy brings standards, motivation and recognition. Fire partners are warm, expressive and confident, which pulls you out of your composed shell. The heavenly combination here is Sin with Byeong (丙辛合), the jewel in sunlight, admiration in both directions. And Gyeong with Jeong is the forge pairing the Qiong Tong Bao Jian keeps returning to: raw metal needs a focused flame to become useful.
Friction
Same-polarity pairs feel the heat most. Gyeong with Byeong is big sun on raw steel, a power struggle between two strong personalities. Sin with Jeong is a candle too close to a gem, small, intense and sometimes scorching. You may feel pressured, judged or rushed; they may find you cold, critical or slow to respond. Fire wants a visible reaction, and Metal prefers to process privately.
In love
In love they warm you and you give them something solid to shine on. It works when their heat is encouragement rather than pressure, and when you show feeling instead of staying perfectly polished. A little vulnerability goes a long way with Fire.
As friends
As friends, Fire gets you to the party and you make sure everyone gets home safely. They hype; you plan.
YeonBeing refined is lovely. Being lectured is not. If the forge never cools down, step out of it.
How to make it work
Earth is the bridge: Fire feeds Earth and Earth feeds Metal. Shared routines, food and practical projects turn their pressure into support for you. Tell them what kind of push helps you and what kind of push makes you shut down.
The Day Master pairs
Read from the Metal side, the four Day Master pairings here are Gyeong with Byeong (Seven Killings), Gyeong with Jeong (Direct Officer), Sin with Byeong (Direct Officer), and Sin with Jeong (Seven Killings), and each of those pairings links to its own compatibility page.
Is Fire bad for Metal in saju?
Fire controls Metal, which means pressure, but classical texts say Metal needs Fire to become refined. Sin with Byeong is a heavenly combination.
Why do classical texts pair Gyeong with Jeong?
The Qiong Tong Bao Jian describes Gyeong as raw metal forged by Jeong Fire. It is one of the best-known images in classical saju.
