Earth dams Water. If you are a Water Day Master, Im or Gye, an Earth Day Master, Mu (戊, the mountain) or Gi (己, the garden field), is your Officer: the element that gives you banks, limits and direction. That can feel restrictive, like someone trying to put a lid on the ocean. It can also feel like relief, because water with no banks is a flood, and the classics are fond of Earth giving strong Water a course to follow.

Chemistry
In Ten God terms, Earth is Seven Killings (편관) if you share polarity and Direct Officer (정관) if you do not. Officer energy brings structure, accountability and a sense of purpose. Earth partners are steady, practical and patient, and they help you turn feelings into plans. The heavenly combination here is Gye with Mu (戊癸合), rain on a mountain, a famously magnetic pair. Im with Gi is the other partner-star pairing, a river irrigating a field. The Qiong Tong Bao Jian goes further and calls 戊 Earth the embankment that powerful Im Water needs.
Friction
Same-polarity pairs feel the walls more. Im with Mu is ocean against mountain: strong pressure on both sides, two people who each think the other should move. Gye with Gi is rain on a field, gentle but prone to mud, worry and overthinking. You may feel controlled, slowed down or judged for changing your mind. Your Earth partner may feel you are unpredictable or emotionally hard to hold. Without care, the relationship becomes a constant negotiation over freedom.
